DIAGNOSTICS & FAULT FINDING

Diagnostic Procedure

Diagnostic procedures are performed to accurately identify the root cause of a vehicle concern before any repairs are recommended or undertaken.

Diagnosis is a systematic process that may involve multiple inspections, testing procedures and verification steps. It is not simply reading fault codes.

Where needed, manufacturer service information, wiring diagrams, technical service bulletins and speciality equipment** are used throughout the diagnostic process.   (**Additional charges may apply)

 Diagnostic Service Includes

  • Verify the customer's concern.

  • Interview the customer regarding vehicle symptoms where required.

  • Perform a visual inspection of the affected system.

  • Perform a complete OBD-II system scan.

  • Record and interpret stored, pending and history Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

  • Review freeze-frame and live data where applicable.

  • Perform manufacturer-specific system scans where supported.

  • Check for Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) and known faults where available.

  • Carry out functional tests.

  • Perform electrical testing including voltage, resistance, continuity and current measurements where required.

  • Perform actuator and bi-directional control testing where supported.

  • Perform battery, starting and charging system testing where applicable or if required.

  • Inspect related wiring, connectors, fuses, relays and grounds.

  • Perform mechanical inspection where required to eliminate non-electrical causes.

  • Road test the vehicle if safe and appropriate.

  • Document work process.

 Diagnostic Report

A detailed diagnostic report is provided outlining:

  • Customer concern.

  • Systems inspected.

  • Fault codes identified.

  • Test results.

  • Components tested.

  • Root cause (where confirmed).

  • Recommended repairs or further testing.

 Additional Diagnostic Time

Some faults require extensive testing before an accurate diagnosis can be made.

Additional diagnostic time may be required for:

  • Intermittent faults.

  • Electrical wiring faults.

  • CAN Bus communication faults.

  • Water ingress.

  • Hybrid and EV systems.

  • Programming and coding issues.

  • Previously modified vehicles.

  • Multiple system failures.

  • Faults requiring component removal for testing.

  • Manufacturer-directed diagnostic procedures.

Where additional time is required beyond the approved diagnostic allowance, customer authorisation will be obtained before further work is undertaken.

 Please Note

Diagnostic labour covers testing, inspection, analysis and reporting only.

Replacement of components, repairs, programming, calibration, fluid replacement or additional labour required to rectify the fault are not included and will be quoted separately.

Diagnosis cannot guarantee that every fault will be identified during the initial inspection, particularly where intermittent faults are present or multiple unrelated faults exist.

Should the customer choose not to proceed with repairs after diagnosis has been completed, all diagnostic labour, testing time and associated charges remain payable.

If replacement parts are required to continue diagnosis, or if special-order or non-returnable parts are ordered with customer approval, these items remain payable even if repairs are subsequently declined.
